Epi-LASIK
Augusta Georgia
Epi-LASIK is a laser eye surgery procedure that combines the advantages of LASIK and PRK to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. Epi-LASIK may reduce or eliminate your dependency on glasses and contact lenses.
With Epi-LASIK, Dr. Bruckner uses the Allegretto Wave laser to reshape the cornea of the eye. During Epi-LASIK, a very thin flap is made in the epithelium of the eye. Because Epi-LASIK removes less corneal tissue, it is usually recommended for patients with thin corneas and large pupils.
During Epi-LASIK, Dr. Bruckner gently lifts the edge of the epithelial flap and gently folds it out of the way. He then uses the Allegretto Wave laser to sculpt the corneal tissue underneath and correct the error. The epithelial flap is then placed back on the eye.
Epi-LASIK eliminates the need for alcohol or a blade by separating the epithelium with an epikeratome. This state-of-the-art device allows the epithelial flap to remain after surgery, which promotes faster healing and reduces discomfort.
