Glaucoma Treatment
Augusta, Georgia
Glaucoma is the condition where the pressure inside the eye (intraocular
pressure or IOP) increases to a degree that can damage the
nerve tissue. If left untreated, it could cause loss of vision
and blindness.
For
years ophthalmologists treated glaucoma by performing surgery
and prescribing medication. Dr. Bruckner, who has actively
treated glaucoma for years, now uses the latest technology
to treat glaucoma with exceptional results.
Ex-PRESS™
Mini Glaucoma Shunt
Ex-PRESS™ mini glaucoma shunt is
less than 3 mm long and is placed inside the eye to lower
IOP. This FDA approved unit has shown successful results in
treating glaucoma.
Dr.
Bruckner's personal experience using the shunt has demonstrated
impressive results as well:
•
50% of Dr. Bruckner’s patients treated with Ex-PRESS™
no longer need any medications to lower their IOP.
• 25% are using less medication!
Dr.
Bruckner has presented his results with the Ex-PRESS™
mini glaucoma shunt to other ophthalmologists at conferences
both within the US and abroad.
Laser Treatment
Dr. Bruckner gives his patients the option of using eye drops and/or laser to treat their glaucoma. Traditional argon lasers (Argon Laser Trabeculoplasty) have been joined by YAG lasers (SLT) in painlessly widening the drain in the eyes of glaucoma patients; thereby lowering eye pressure and reducing the need for expensive eyedrops which may be associated with bothersome side effects(such as burning, redness or blurred vision). Both the ALT and SLT are available in Dr. Bruckner's office. Not too many practices in Georgia offer the choice of these two laser procedures.
